First announcement - [PDF]
The Direct Drive and Fast Ignition Workshop was held in Paris 2003, Rome 2004, Toledo 2005, Bordeaux 2006, Madrid 2007, Lisbon 2008, Prague 2009, London 2010 and Bruyeres le Chatel 2011. Traditionally, it provides a unique opportunity for a limited group of European and overseas scientists working in the theory and simulations of inertial confinement fusion to present and discuss in depth their latest work in an informal atmosphere and to discuss the future direction of work in this area. The meeting also addresses prospective methods for producing electron and ion beams with parameters suitable for fast ignition as well as alternate fast ignition methods like shock and impact ignition. Certain novel experiments in the field are usually presented by leading experimentalists and their implications are discussed with the stress on options for future modifications. The benchmarking of simulation codes against experiments and the use of codes in the design and interpretation of experiments are extensively discussed, and thus representatives of the leading user facilities working in this area will be invited to present reviews of their laser facilities and the experiments carried out at them and talks on recent experimental results of particular interest will be accepted.
