Generation, interaction, imaging, spectroscopy and detection of soft X-rays are studied and applied in various projects. Experimental work is currently enhanced by research into X-ray lasers and diagnostic techniques of hot dense plasmas with high temporal, spectral and spatial resolution applicable generally to astrophysics, thermonuclear fusion, X-ray and non-linear optics. This research includes optical complex interferometry, X-ray imaging, X-ray spectrometry and X-ray detection. Several national and international R&D grants have been obtained mostly for grazing incidence X-ray optical systems and X-ray CCD detectors. Laboratory exploits equipment shared in the Prague Center of Industrial X-ray Tomography and Laser Center Prague.

The research has been linked with other laboratories, e.g. Inst. für Plasma Forschung, Stuttgart, Rutherford and Appleton Laboratory, Didcot; Medical Research Council, Cambridge; Inst. of Plasma Physics and Laser Microfusion, Warsaw, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, USA, and University Graz.
