Laser Systems and their Application
|
The project can be characterized as strategy-oriented fundamental research in laser physics and technology, based on both theory and experiments. The common denominator of this research is interaction of coherent optical radiation with matter, being the basis of both selected applications and theory for a search of new active materials. The objectives are: New findings about non-conventional solid state media for lasers and optoelectronics, New laser systems for selected applications, New application procedures for advanced production technologies, Plasma as an active medium for X-ray lasers, Optical and X-ray diagnostic methods and electronic information processing.
Research into the above issues is not a straightforward activity and therefore it is divided into the stages A.-H. Current goals solved by participants from the Department of Physical Electronics are mentioned in parenthesis:
- A.
- Solid State Lasers for selected Applications (High power
diode pumped Nd:YAG laser, Electro-optic Q-switched Er:YAG laser,
Ho:YAG laser for medical applications)
- B.
- Research of X-ray Laser (Capillary discharge, Computer
modelling of plasma for X-ray lasers, X-ray diagnostics)
- C.
- Optical Spectroscopy (Luminiscence kinetics, Development of
time resolved nanosecond spectroscopy apparatus)
- D.
- Optical Materials and Elements (Preparation of planar
wave-guides in LiNbO[3] by ion implantation)
- E.
- Difractive and Nonlinear Optics (Coherent processing of
data, Investigation of non-linear properties of X:BaTiO[3])
- F.
- Fast Optical Detectors (Development of special solid state
single photon detectors)
- G.
- Electronic Systems (Computer control of laser radar, electronics for solid state lasers, HV charching power supply for capillary discharge)
This Research plan is based on the wide cooperation with other departments of FNSPE and other CTU faculties. Namely, the stage:
- H.
- Laser Systems in Industrial Metrology (Laser beam profiling, Atmospheric distortions, Object distortion diagnostics)
Most researchers have acquired long experience, having worked on various projects in their field and are held in high esteem internationally. It is to be noted that 6 of the research scientists are co-authors the encyclopaedia on Lasers and Modern Optics (1994). In solving the issues, all the participating institutions involve also their PhD students.
The team has active scientific contacts with universities and research institutions in USA (University of New Mexico), France (University of Limoges), Italy (University of Pavia), Russia (Institute of Physics, Academy of Sciences).
This project has been solved since the year 1999. There are reported 194 publications which has been prepared as the results of the work done in the frame of this project. As an illustration we present here the list of selected publication from the year 2000:
